MEET GREG GREELEY

 

 

A dedicated parent and community leader who lives with his family in the Douglas Park neighborhood of South Arlington, Greg Greeley has a strong record of activism in support of our public schools and a positive vision for carrying our school system into the future.

 

A skilled collaborator, Greg will bring years of thoughtful, effective service to our School Board, including:

 

  • Chair, Planning and Capacity Subcommittee, Advisory Council on School Facilities and Capital Programs (FAC)

  • Member, FAC

  • Ambassador, Nottingham Elementary School, More Seats for More Students boundary process

  • Treasurer, PTA, Randolph Elementary School

  • Vice Chair, Northern Virginia, MIT Educational Council

  • Nominee, local Foster Parent of the Year

  • Former President and Board Member, Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL)

Family

Greg is the proud single father of two boys and was a foster parent to other kids in recent years. Nikolay (“Kolya”) was adopted from the Ukraine in 2002 and attends Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Originally from El Salvador, Greg’s son Ismael was adopted in 2013 and recently graduated from high school with an Advanced Studies Diploma. Ismael is now studying engineering at Northern Virginia Community College. 

History

Greg learned the value of public education from his mother, an elementary school teacher for 44 years, and his father, a high school band director. Greg earned a BS and MS in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and after graduation, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. After a four-year tour of duty, Greg joined the private sector, working in number of senior management level positions across the finance, healthcare, and information technology industries.
